The Village Pilot Project
The Village Pilot Project (VPP) is a mentorship, leadership and academic training pilot project offered jointly by the Red Fox Healthy Living Society (Red Fox) and Kupaa Foundation (Kupaa) in the lower mainland of British Columbia. Participants will participate in modules throughout the year, with each focusing on a different stage of leadership and personal development. The project aims to aid youth from various backgrounds achieve their self-determined goals by offering the following services:
- Improving the graduation rate of participants via:
- Goal setting
- University and college preparation
- Career coaching
- Emotional intelligence training
- Leadership training

At the outset of the project, Kupaa and Red Fox will measure, among other metrics, participants’ academic performance, leadership potential and emotional intelligence. Based on the results of these assessments, Kupaa volunteers will work with participants and their guardians to develop a customized plan to help participants achieve their self-defined goals. Participants will then complete an assessment during and at the end of the program to track the effectiveness of the plan.
The VPP will build important data collection and data analysis capacity for Kupaa and Red Fox. A critical component of the VPP is improving Kupaa and Red Fox’s understanding of some of the short-term impacts on the academic performance and mental/emotional well-being of participants of the VPP. As well, the VPP aims to help Kupaa and Red Fox understand what factors are the most determinative of academic success and leadership potential.
